If you are in Class 11 or 12 and want an IIM degree without waiting for CAT, the IPMAT exam is your route in. This guide covers the IPMAT full form, eligibility, exam date, registration, fees, syllabus, pattern and preparation strategy for the 2027 cycle.

A quick note before you begin: IIM Indore and IIM Rohtak have not yet published their official IPMAT 2027 notifications. Dates, fees and age limits below follow the 2026 cycle and are marked as expected. Always confirm them on the official websites.

What is IPMAT? 

IPMAT full form is Integrated Programme in Management Aptitude Test. It is a national-level entrance exam for admission to the five-year Integrated Programme in Management (IPM), a BBA plus MBA pathway that you can join right after Class 12.

The IPMAT entrance exam is conducted separately by IIM Indore and IIM Rohtak. The IIM Indore score is accepted by several other IIMs and institutes, while the IIM Rohtak score is used mainly for Rohtak's own programme.

So, what is the IPMAT exam for, and for what purpose is it conducted? The IPMAT exam is for school-leavers who want to start the management courses early. It tests quantitative and verbal aptitude, and your score decides whether you are shortlisted for the interview stage and, eventually, an IPM seat.

The IPM itself is a single continuous program. The first three years work like an undergraduate degree, and the last two years merge into the MBA. Unlike CAT, which you take after graduation, IPMAT lets you enter an IIM straight from school.

IPMAT Exam Eligibility Criteria 

To be eligible for IPMAT, you must have passed Class 12 or be appearing for it, and meet the age limit set by the institute. IIM Indore has no minimum board percentage for the exam. IIM Rohtak requires at least 60 percent. 

Academic Qualification 

Students from any stream (Science, Commerce or Arts) can apply. For 2027, students who passed Class 12 in 2026 or are appearing in 2027 are expected to be eligible. Students who are awaiting results can apply, and their admission stays provisional until marks are verified.

Strong Class 12 mathematics is an advantage, but it is not a requirement.

Age Limit & Minimum Percentage Required 

Age limit (expected for 2027):

• IIM Indore: Candidates born on or after 1 August 2007, with a five-year relaxation for SC, ST and PwD candidates.
• IIM Rohtak: Candidates should not be older than 20 years as of the cut-off date in the notification (30 June in 2026).

Minimum percentage:

• IIM Indore: No minimum percentage for the exam. Your board marks can still matter at the verification stage, so keep your Class 10 and 12 records ready.
• IIM Rohtak: At least 60 per cent in Class 10 and 12 (55 per cent for SC, ST and PwD candidates). In 2026, this was calculated on the best five subjects, and 59.9 per cent did not round up.

Some institutes that accept the IPMAT Indore score apply their own 60 per cent cut-off, so check each college separately.

IPMAT Exam Date 2027

The IPMAT 2027 exam date has not been officially announced yet. Based on the previous exam schedule, IIM Indore is expected to conduct IPMAT in the first week of May 2027, followed by IIM Rohtak approximately a week later.

For reference, IPMAT 2026 was conducted on 4 May by IIM Indore and 10 May by IIM Rohtak. Candidates should check the official IIM websites regularly for the confirmed exam dates and schedule.

IIM Indore’s exam dates also apply to other institutes that accept its IPMAT score. However, JIPMAT is a separate entrance exam for IIM Jammu and IIM Bodh Gaya, with its own application and exam schedule.

IPMAT Registration Process

IPMAT registration is done online on the official websites of IIM Indore (iimidr.ac.in) and IIM Rohtak. You must apply to each institute separately, because applying to one does not register you for the other.

1. Visit the official IPM admissions page and register as a new applicant to receive your user ID and password.
2. Log in and fill in your personal, communication and academic details.
3. Upload your photograph, signature and required documents.
4. Choose your preferred exam cities.
5. Pay the application fee online and download the confirmation.

Enter your name, date of birth, email and phone number carefully, as these details are hard to change later. Use the correction window, if offered, only for permitted fields.

Documents Required for IPMAT Registration

• Recent passport-size photograph
• Scanned signature
• Class 10 and Class 12 mark sheets (or an appearing certificate)
• Valid photo ID proof
• Category certificate (SC, ST, PwD, NC-OBC or EWS), if applicable

IPMAT Registration Fees

IPMAT fees vary by institute and category. The IPMAT exam fees for 2026 are a useful guide for 2027:

• IIM Indore: ₹4,130 (including GST) for General, EWS and NC-OBC; ₹2,065 for SC, ST and PwD.
• IIM Rohtak: About ₹4,937 for all categories in 2026, though some sources list ₹4,500. Confirm this on the official notification.

The fee is non-refundable, and you can pay by UPI, net banking or card. Other institutes accepting IPMAT scores may charge separate registration fees. Your IPMAT registration fees are therefore the sum of every institute you apply to.

IPMAT Exam Syllabus

IIMs do not publish an official IPMAT syllabus, so the topics below are drawn from past papers. IPMAT Indore tests Quantitative Ability and Verbal Ability. IPMAT Rohtak adds Logical Reasoning.

Quantitative Ability (MCQ & Short Answer)

Quantitative Ability tests Class 11 and 12 mathematics applied in a competitive setting. The Short Answer section asks you to type a numerical answer, so guessing does not help.

• Arithmetic: Percentages, ratios, profit and loss, averages, time and work, time-speed-distance, mixtures
• Algebra: Linear and quadratic equations, inequalities, functions, logarithms, sequences and series
• Number system: Factors, remainders, divisibility

Verbal Ability carries the most questions in IPMAT Indore, so it should not be an afterthought.

IPMAT Exam Pattern & Marking Scheme

IPMAT Indore has 90 questions for 360 marks in 120 minutes, with 40 minutes per section. It has 30 QA MCQs, 15 QA Short Answer questions and 45 Verbal Ability MCQs. A correct answer earns 4 marks. A wrong MCQ costs 1 mark, and Short Answer questions carry no negative marking.

IPMAT Rohtak has 120 MCQs for 480 marks, split equally across Quantitative Ability, Logical Reasoning and Verbal Ability at 40 questions each. Marking is +4 and −1. Check the notification to see whether sectional time limits apply.

Since both exams are computer-based, practise on screen as often as you can.

How to Prepare for the IPMAT Exam? 

The best way to prepare for the IPMAT exam is to build fundamentals first, practise by topic, then move to timed sectional tests and full mocks. Starting in Class 11 gives you the most room, but a focused plan can work in Class 12 too.

• Fix the basics: Revise NCERT Class 11 and 12 maths, along with grammar rules.
• Read daily: Editorials and long-form articles build comprehension speed.
• Practice by section: Work on Short Answer questions separately, since accuracy matters there.
• Review every mock: Track why you lost marks, not just how many.
• Protect your boards: Balance IPMAT prep with Class 12 exams.

IPMAT Mock Tests & Previous Year Papers

Solve previous year papers from the last four to five years to understand question style and difficulty. Then take full-length mocks in the exam's exact format, including 40-minute sectional timing for Indore. Aim to attempt mocks weekly in the final three months, and spend at least as long analysing each one as you spent taking it.

IPMAT Result, WAT-PI Process & Selection Criteria

Selection has two stages: the aptitude test and the interview round. Your IPMAT score gets you shortlisted, and your interview performance decides the final merit list.

At IIM Indore, candidates must clear the sectional cut-offs to be shortlisted. In 2026, the PI shortlist came out on 25 May, and reports say only 838 General, EWS and NC-OBC candidates cleared all cut-offs. The interviews were held in mid-June, and offers followed in late June. IIM Indore has about 150 seats, so competition is intense.

The shortlist is followed by a written ability test and personal interview (WAT-PI). One widely cited 2026 breakdown gives 65 per cent weightage to the aptitude test and 35 per cent to the interview, but confirms this in the official admission policy. IIM Rohtak follows its own process, which also considers past academic performance.
