M.Sc. in Nutrition and Dietetics

The M.Sc in Nutrition and Dietetics program is designed to provide students with advanced knowledge and skills in the field of nutrition and dietetics. The program aims to produce graduates who are competent to work in a range of settings, from clinical to community-based nutrition and dietetics.

The course covers advanced topics in nutrition and dietetics, including the science of nutrition, dietary assessment, clinical nutrition, community nutrition, and public health nutrition. Students will learn about the role of nutrients in the body, the principles of diet therapy, and the management of nutrition-related diseases. They will also learn about the socio-economic, cultural, and environmental factors that affect food choices and nutritional status.

SYLLABUS

Throughout the course, the students are provided with following projects

Semester 1

  • To learn how the body works, what role different nutrients play, how they help the body
    function, and how they are used to create energy.
  • Anatomy, physiology, and the nutritional management of certain diseases of the nervous system, reproductive system, musculoskeletal system, and excretory system.
  • Chemistry and Metabolism of Nucleic acids
  • Systems Biology
  • Elements of Immunology, Genetics and Molecular Biology
  • Acquire knowledge about and experience with various nutritional assessment
    methodologies.
  • Have an understanding of the growth and development that occurs during pregnancy,
    as well as the nutritional requirements that must be met in order to support healthy living
    in the community.
  • Be knowledgeable about the needs of children and adolescents who are attending school
    with regard to their growth and development as well as their nutritional intake.
  • During infancy and the preschool years, educate yourself on the fundamentals of growth and development, as well as the nutritional requirements.
  • Be aware of the dietary requirements of adults and the elderly.

Semester 2

  • Learn about nutrition policies and programmes to fight malnutrition.
  • Know what role national, international, and non-profit organizations play in the fight against malnutrition.
  • Be able to use computers to put together a community nutrition education programme.
  • Use immunological intervention programmes to stop an epidemic of diseases that can be spread.
  • Applying the principles of feeding a lot of people extra food and keeping food safe during unplanned disasters
  • Understand what fitness training is and how it works. Improve fitness skills.Prevent and treat lifestyle-related diseases.
  • Use exercise to manage stress and your health
  • Learn how to run fitness centres on a technical level
  • Know what athletes need to eat and make a meal plan for them.

Semester 3

  • Create tables and visual representations to aid with data gathering, identification, and interpretation.
  • Check the numbers to see if there are any statistical proofs to back up the findings of the study.
  • To help a student become a competent researcher.
  • Be familiar with the most prevalent health issues in the area, learn how to prevent and treat nutritional deficiencies.
  • Recognize the causes of nutritional deficiency and excess.
  • Learn how to instruct expectant mothers on how to maintain a healthy diet throughout their pregnancies and breastfeeding.

Semester 4

  • Know what’s going on in the areas of nutraceuticals and nutrigenomics.
  • Know what functional foods and foods with nutraceuticals are made of.
  • Know why probiotics and prebiotics are important to human health
  • Understanding how nutrients affect molecular processes in the body and how phytochemicals affect diseases.
