M.A. in Journalism &Mass Communication

The M.A. in Journalism and Mass Communication is designed to provide students with a strong understanding of journalism and mass communication modern theories and practices. This includes media theory, journalism history, ethics of journalism, visual journalism, documentary filmmaking, public relations theory and practice as well as marketing communications. It also allows students to build their knowledge of media technology. This course will teach the skills and knowledge of how to research, write, and produce a story.

SYLLABUS

Throughout the course, the students are provided with following projects

Semester 1

  • Introduction to the communication and media industry.
  • Introduction to the concepts related to print media and its working process.
  • Develop confidence and reduce stage fear from the minds of students willing to be a media professional.
  • Learn the techniques of photography and to apply the theory to practical problems in still photography.
  • Foster the theories and postulate of converting imagination to virtual reality in the field of New Media.

Semester 2

  • Video production with the help of studio camera and lighting.
  • Learn to write scripts for Radio Journalism, Radio Advertisements and Radio Entertainment.  
  • Develop skills to produce various radio programmes.
  • Understand culture in all its complex forms, and analyzing the social and political context in which culture manifests itself. 
  • Polishing the communication skills and navigate the communication acumen of PR skills to build communication strategy to escalate corporate image and build an influential PR strategy planner to deal with client and media.
  •  Learn various aspects of editing and the nuances involved in newspaper page designing and typography.

Semester 3

  • Working knowledge of  linear and  non-linear editing software
  • Learn the art and skills for Writing, Producing and Directing for TV.
  • Explore the arena of social and development sector and realize the scope of communication in developing and cultivating healthy culture in the community.
  • Learn about cinema and its diversified components such as Songs, Lyrics, Music, Storyline, Script, Acting, Dialogues, Lighting Effects, Editing and blending art.
  • Develop the concept of advertising strategies, understanding the brand importance, positioning, planning, and structure of advertising agencies and to understand the concept of market research and planning.

Semester 4

  • Introduction to the art and concept of making Documentary Films.
  • Use of conventions and a “grammar” to convey meaning when using cameras and production equipment.
  • Understanding the fundamentals of media market research in terms of the methodology.
  • Learn basics of writing for different media to develop the acumen of creativity and to inject new feeling and taste by creating new and diversified landscapes to the construction of sentences.
