Understand the principles of space, planning, and color theories by gaining the knowledge of history, theories, and typologies of interior designing at AAFT

The school offers various multidisciplinary programs, including 4-year B.Des Interior Design that prepare students to create innovative interior spaces in domestic, retail, commercial, and institutional settings. Semester 1

  • Focuses on stimulating creativity, sensitivity, and skills to build a strong foundation
  • Developing students’ aesthetic, intellectual, and technological abilities through theory and practical.
  • Introduction to basic terminology used in Interior designing
  • Understanding the principles and elements of designing in interior design.
  • Understanding the segments in interior accessory
  • To use the hand as a tool and explore the line quality by holding the pencil in different ways.
  • Understanding the elements of art, such as dot, line, shape, form, space, colour, and texture in the design.
  • How to present thoughts and ideas fairly

Semester 2

  • Importance of textiles in interior designing and home furnishing
  • Process of dealing and application of various construction materials as per the design.
  • Learning about the right size and proportion used in construction
  • Gaining expertise in using the right technology for construction
  • Designing furniture pieces by taking inspiration from history
  • Designing residential furniture by manipulating the elements as per customer specification.
  • Understanding state laws with reference to residential spaces

Semester 3

  • History of Indian architecture.
  • Gaining on-field experience by visiting and studying the architectural styles of monuments and temples.
  • Imparting knowledge about climatic science that deals with factors like weather, atmospheric pressures, and air masses.
  • Studying about arches, staircases, panel partition that are vital for technical and design knowledge
  • Students will learn to design two types of furniture systems – storage and sitting
  • Students will get to learn about plotting, manipulation, a variation of designs, and their visual evaluation by computer-aided designing (CAD)
  • Producing floor plans and elevations

Semester 4

  • Tracing the history of western architecture through various traditions, regions, stylistic trends, and era.
  • Learning to take inspiration from history for creating innovative designs.
  • Students will get complete know-how of technical features required to build an excellent functional space like elevator technology, drainage system, duct system, water distribution system, different types of lighting for residential and commercial spaces, etc.
  • Introducing students to computer-aided 3D printing for illustrating interior design ideas

Semester 5

  • To equip students with a better knowledge of estimate and costing so that they can prepare time schedules and budgets efficiently.
  • Understanding the relevance of Vaastu Shastra
  • Understanding the importance of green and sustainable design
  • Become aware of the target market and plan the business accordingly.
  • How to work with 3Ds Max in the interior design industry
  • Students will learn to develop the product right from sourcing raw material to its finishing level.

Semester 6

  • Students are given the flexibility to implement the knowledge that they have acquired in previous semesters and create a graduating design collection
  • Students will learn to clearly communicate their design details by choosing the right technique of photography.
  • Understanding the commercial aspects of photography
  • Students will be asked to make a product portfolio.

Semester 7

  • Understanding the art of landscaping and implementing the landscape elements and plant materials to transform the interior spaces.
  • Understanding the intricacies of designing urban cities.
  • The students will be provided with the advanced knowledge of 3D Max, which is useful for product design and Building (exterior and interior) design.
  • Students will be asked to select a set design project and will be working on it right from the inception stage to execution.

Semester 8

  • The students will be required to do a dissertation that will make them aware of the research writings and understanding the methods of compiling their research or project work/data.
